10 november 2019 was the date when a day before yesterday A friend of mine from Coochbehar called me. His name was Subroto Ray who lived in Pundibari, a place near the main sadar of Coochbehar. The cochbehar is famous for it’s main attraction Rajbari, Raja’s Palace.
This friend for whom I am taking about he is primary school teacher and also whenever he get’s time to relax he sets up a plan for a ride. Previously we had been to nearby Chilapata forests with him and to some local places.
So, a day before yesterday he actually called me regarding a plan a bike trip to Kalimpong. I searched about the city in google and found that :-
“Kalimpong is an east Indian hill town in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. Perched on a Ridge above the Teesta River, it’s a home to colonial-era buildings like MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish Missionary, South, the hilltop Durpin Monastry or Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, contains sacred Buddhist Scriptures. Deolo Park has landscaped gardens and offers views of the town and surrounding hills.”
Saturday was little bit less work so we met at the Sagardighi, coochbehar to plan out the trip actually it was 190 kms from Coochbehar and decided that next morning we have to wake-up early and go through the Malbazaar route and will use gps where it will be needed.
I switched on my alarm and slept. The next morning, I woke up at 5: 00 am and called him at 5:15 am. He was an early riser so there was not much difficulty to wake him up. So I picked up my optimus prime my Dominar 400. So from the residence of dentist I came out for a new safar( tour). Reached his house at around 6:00 am the tune within in my ears was listening to the hindi song “Illahi mera jihaeaieai.”
He asked me that have you eaten anything ? I said no he brought with him 4 boiled eggs for morning breakfast . We all were ready for the bike trip with some speed with my domi. Then we have planned actually to cross falakata within 1 hour, then falakata to Birpara. But actually I ride my bike a little bit slow by which it took actually 1 hour to reach falakata. Subroto reminded me that yaar hum log thoda late chal rahe hein. After reaching Birpara we ride straight to Telipara chowk and then turned eight side for Chalsa through the Chapramari Wildlife forests came the Gorubathan with average speed of 90 km per hour. After reaching Chalsa then the route was for Malbazar. ////////////………..
One thing I would tell that the while riding the bike it felt awesome what the feeling is I can’t just describe in words. The sky is so blue, that it felt as if the environment of tea gardens have kept the air of refreshness for our arrival only. Though there was arrival of Bulbul for which it may rain but while riding through the slopes there was the mist.
But I need to say that the journey was really very exciting but If you are a new rider then don’t go through this either take any experience rider with you or either take any taxi. So after a ride of around 4 hours we reached Lava Monestry where we roamed for a while. I purchased the Buddhist bike flag and we tried to understand their rituals as there was some kinda performance which were going on while we visited the monastery. There we clicked some pictures, special one was that where my friend urged me to click some special kind of pictures, after clicking the pictures I laughed then said “what an idea Sirji”
Seeming with the view I halted or rather saying I was trying to remember a famous poem. But Let’s go was the call both from the time and alsofrom Subroto. Then we arrived at the gate where our id cards ,the bike and mobile number had been noted. And after that we ride towards the Niara Valley Forest. The sideways Rhododendron were really made the scenery. You all may take pictures anywhere here. After a ride of 5-6 hours finally reached our destination Kalpakkam nearabout 1 :00 pm . As the Thailand Valley Home stay was prebooked and we hadn’t any difficulties regarding any accommodation.
As soon as we reached we choose our favorite room to sleep. Then Subroto said, “ yaar Sudhir we should ordered our lunch. We called the didi to cook some boiled Rice, dal allu chokha, mix sabji, egg curry.
After finishing the lunch we asked them what is the nearby sights to see, then they told us about chengi waterfalls, which was some trek to the downward side which will take approximately 1 hour to cover.
Which was breathless walk somewhere it was upright up and was down steep somewhere. If you are facing any difficulty to walk or trek in the rocky hills then don’t forget to take a stick with you, it will be better.
On our way of return we took some drinks to make our evening. We on reaching our homestay ordered some evening snacks like Pakoda and coffee.
After that we had our dinner Rosti, Chicken, egg curry, salad and as there was so chilled outside inspite of that with shivering talk about the environment passed our luxurious time. Subroto and I discussed about some economics and geography of the place with the beautiful landscape looked as if someone had put the stars on the ground.
Then, after this discussion we slept to take a morning ride to Coochbehar. Breakfast was Black tea, puri and Sabji. We refilled our lungs with the freshness and then got ready. On the way down we witnessed some everbeauty of Sunrise by stopping the bike at the downhill. So majestic was the view.
Then the same route we followed and returned to Coochbehar around 1 or 2:00 pm the next day.
Thank you guys,
